This photo exhibition centres on the water in the Amsterdam canals. The quality of the canal water has gradually improved since the early twentieth century, and these days the canals are full of life, both on and underneath the water. The museum also houses a permanent exhibition.

Our addiction to energy, our dependence on fossil fuels and the impact on the climate are the central focus in this new NEMO exhibition for adults. Visit Energy Junkies in NEMO’s De Studio on the Marineterrein in Amsterdam. They also host a workshop, lectures and other events and activities on the same topic there on Thursday night every other week.

The Cartography & Curiosities Exhibition tells the tale of Dutch seafarers from the 17th century onwards, and how their voyages shaped the European view of the world. The exhibition commences with the spectacular 1597 wall map of Amsterdam designed by Pieter Bast.

The new Amsterdam Havenstad (‘Amsterdam: Port City’) exhibition shows the ancient relationship between the port and the city. From the time a dam in the River Amstel was installed and well into the future – focusing on topics such as area development, energy, sustainability and mobility.

Amsterdam’s Treasure Chest (Schatkamer Amsterdam) provides a unique overview of the city’s history. The 1926 space, with its characteristic design, is used to exhibit the original pieces from the archives and collections. The selection of old photographs, drawings, maps, objects and documents brings you up close and personal with crucial moments in Amsterdam’s history.
