The foundation stone was laid in late September 2020.

Local residents objected to the establishment of the Memorial, but the judge ruled against them. Following an appeal, the Council of State issued a final decision in October 2020 allowing the construction of the Names Memorial to proceed.

Architect Daniel Libeskind presented the design for the Holocaust Names Memorial Netherlands on 16 December 2016.

The National Holocaust Names Memorial on Weesperstraat was unveiled in September 2021.
The Memorial commemorates all of the Dutch Holocaust victims who do not have a grave and consists of 102,000 bricks engraved with the names of the murdered Dutch Jews, Roma and Sinti.
